Are you practicing spoken interaction or studying the writing system?
Kana, kanji, grammar and spoken interaction are different comparison criteria. Choose a speaking task with an appropriate level of politeness, then use reading tools for the parts they actually teach.
Two questions to separate
What will you study?
A course or specialist resource can build the language knowledge you need. Inspect the actual lesson for your starting language and target variety. A language listed on a marketing page does not establish that every feature is available in that direction.
What will you attempt?
For speaking, compare the task: repeat a model, recall a phrase, respond to a new question or work with a teacher. These are different activities. Choose the help you need now and verify that it is available for this language.
Try one concrete task
Choose one real situation in Japanese. Listen to a suitable model, say a short request, change one detail and ask a follow-up. Note where you needed help. This is a way to compare workflows, not a validated proficiency assessment.
Documented tools to inspect
These are examples of different workflows, not a ranking. Confirm the exact language pair, activity, plan and current availability. A specialist tool may solve one part of the task without being a complete replacement.
Renshuu
Look at Renshuu if you need flexible Japanese review that follows your textbook or selected material, particularly when vocabulary, characters and grammar all need attention within one study environment.1
Renshuu combines Japanese vocabulary, kanji, grammar and sentence study.1
Choose a focused study path; extensive customization is useful only when it follows a clear learning goal.1
Read the product comparison ↗Bunpro
Consider Bunpro if understanding and recalling Japanese grammar patterns is a concrete study need. A reader who recognizes words but cannot parse their relationship has a specialist question to resolve. Choosing a speaking routine is related, but should not erase the need for Japanese-specific explanation or a compatible script and level.234
Bunpro specializes in Japanese study.24
Check that you are choosing Bunpro, rather than a similarly named product, and inspect the course and review interface. If Japanese is your goal, confirm that Speak supports your language pair before considering it for the same routine.234
Read the product comparison ↗JapanesePod101
Consider JapanesePod101 if you want explanations of Japanese conversations and tools to revisit their details, especially when understanding what each line means is more pressing than finding another general language app.5
JapanesePod101 offers short audio and video lessons.5
Distinguish lesson access from Premium PLUS teacher messaging, and verify the plan you actually need.5
Read the product comparison ↗WaniKani
Consider WaniKani when recognizing Japanese characters and recalling their readings are the specific obstacles in your study. You should be willing to return for scheduled reviews. Decide how this specialist task will connect to your actual reading, rather than treating a review count as the whole language goal.6
WaniKani teaches Japanese radicals, kanji meanings/readings and vocabulary.6
Learning kanji readings is not the same task as holding a conversation. The site’s speed claims and learner testimonials are not comparative outcome evidence. Verify separate resources for any needs beyond the documented specialist workflow.6

How Sap Sap Speak relates
Sap Sap Speak is a speaking practice app built around guided spoken phrases and a scene that responds. A structured Course offers a next lesson, with model audio and phrase help available during practice.7
Verify the language pair, device requirements and current store terms before choosing. Guided phrase practice should not be mistaken for unrestricted conversation, a validated pronunciation assessment or individual teaching.
