Start with one turn.
You may follow a video or read a sentence and still pause when someone asks you a question. Instead of giving yourself a broad label, identify the particular task where you need help: finding a word, building a sentence or responding to an unexpected turn. The next exercise is a way to inspect that gap, not a clinical explanation or a level test.
A practice sequence
- Pick a familiar question about your day. Say the shortest true answer you can, without trying to explain everything.
- If a word is missing, describe the idea with words you know. Afterwards, look up the missing expression and check an example.
- Listen to a model for one difficult phrase, then try your own answer again. Keep the message connected to your actual situation.
- Ask a teacher or willing partner one follow-up question. Agree beforehand on what kind of correction would help.
- Write down one point to revisit. Choose the next activity around that specific difficulty instead of restarting an entire course by default.
Try changing the drink, then practice asking for repetition. Notice which task needed help. Completing this example does not establish a proficiency level.
Give each tool a job
Speechling
Consider Speechling when you want another person to listen to how you say a sentence and give focused feedback. You need time to revisit the recording and act on the advice, rather than treating submission itself as the end of the practice session.12

Consider italki when you want a person to respond to your goals and discuss your mistakes. Bring a specific need, such as handling follow-up questions in a meeting, and evaluate the teacher's proposed lesson. A marketplace listing is a starting point for that fit assessment, not a uniform curriculum.3
